1 Ashley's recount on Shop and Chop!

Shop & Chop

Yesterday morning, everybody was excited about our second field trip, “Shop & Chop!!” When I walked into my classroom, everybody brought in their stuff for our field trip such as a chopping board, a chopping knife, a small tea towel, utensils, a cup and if you wished to, a camera. Before leaving, we did some brainstorming about what we should buy for chicken salad and fruit salad.  We all had the budget of 5,000 won.

We left to the market riding F bus. The traditional Korean market was near the World Cup Stadium. When we got there, we were all divided into three groups. I was in the group with Michael’s mum, Michael, Max, Fuad, Jasmine, Serene and Mr. Corben. We had six people in my group so we had the total budget of 30,000 won ! I was the Korean translator and we even got a discount! We used the money wisely and carefully on the food. Michael was in charge of the money and Serene held most of the groceries. We had a lot of fun!

Next, we went to the supermarket next to the traditional market to buy some juice. We decided to buy an orange juice. It was quite cheap… Since we had some money and time left, we bought Fanta Shake!! It’s one of my favorite drinks!! At first, we were going to keep it secretly but Jacques found out so his group bought one too!!! I was so annoyed. Caroline didn’t like Fanta Shake so I drank it for her. I had two Fanta Shakes!! ( I wasn’t really lucky because I got hyper in the bus.)

We went back to school at 10:30. I was starving at that time… As soon as we got off, we had recess. We weren’t allowed to have any snack… After recess, we headed to the Middle School Kitchen. We started making our own food! Paola, Emily, Bora and Mr. Corben were  in my group. We chopped up some fruits and vegetables and grilled tender chicken. I was already famished and drowsy. I thought it was tastier than the food in the cafeteria! It was very delicious especially vanilla ice cream with fruit salad. YUM!!

I had a lot of FUN today and learned a lot – how to use money wisely and to make a basic salad. I wish I could go again!
